Need an Official Record?
Use these custodians for the records most often requested in San Diego County:
- Court case files: see court case records, or contact the clerk at the filing courthouse
- Criminal records and rap sheets: use California DOJ fingerprint record review for your own summary
- Arrest reports: San Diego County Sheriff's Records & ID for Sheriff incidents, or the city police records unit that made the arrest
- Official background checks: use the authorized California DOJ and Live Scan process
- Police reports and incident records: contact the agency that wrote the report
- Expungement and record sealing: file with the court that heard the case
For Sheriff crime, arrest, and accident reports, contact San Diego County Sheriff's Records & ID Division, John F. Duffy Administrative Center, 9621 Ridgehaven Court, San Diego, CA 92123, 858-974-2222. Counter hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a noon to 1:00 p.m. lunch closure. Mail requests go to Records & ID Division, Cases Section, P.O. Box 939062, San Diego, CA 92193-9062.
Criminal court files are kept by the Superior Court of California, County of San Diego. The main criminal counter is at the Central Courthouse, 1100 Union Street, San Diego, CA 92101, on the first and second floors, open 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Cases filed elsewhere must be requested from the proper branch in Chula Vista, Vista, or El Cajon.
